Default WARNING! LESS PEOPLE ARE POSTING ALREADY

JUST BY THE FACT THAT THIS PASSWORD ISSUE IS BEING DISCUSSED, THERE'S A LOT LESS POSTS SHOWING UP. HAVE YOU NOTICED THE DECLINE IN NEW POSTS IN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS?
THIS IS A WARNING ROB. SOME OF THE REGULARS MAY GO ALONG WITH THAT TWO MINUTE PASSWORD SET UP, BUT 90% OF NEWCOMERS MIGHT NOT WANNA DEAL WITH IT. EVEN IF IT'S JUST A 2 MINUTE THING LIKE YOU SAID, IT WOULD BE A HASSLE TO MOST PEOPLE AND THEY'D BE RELUCTANT TO DO THAT. DO YOU THINK THE BOARD IS BAD NOW?
WAIT UNTIL YOU ENFORCE THAT PASSWORD DEAL AND SEE HOW BORING IT WILL GET. I WILL NOT COMMENT ANYMORE ON THIS.I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTENTHE MESSAGE ALREADY WITH THE POSITION OF THE MAJORYTY OF VISITORS AGAINGST THAT PASSWORD NONSENSE, BUT DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. YOU ARE THE WEBMASTER AFTER ALL. I JUST DONT WANT THIS BOARD TO FAIL. IT'S YOUR CALL.

Default Let's see what happens...

I have talked to a number of webmasters that have implemented it very successfully. Their board members had the same reservations at first but they soon faded when they understood the advantages and became accustom to a completely new style of message board and the benefits it offers.

The new board will be beta tested with a few of the regulars here before it's open to the masses. What ultimately happens will be based on their feedback.

Default Re: Let's see what happens...

I don't think that the number of postings is the best indicator. I would hope that one of the goals of the changes being made/contemplated is to eliminate postings that are no more than slams or attempts to dazzle a few regulars with witicisms.

If dr1's primary interest is volumn, then make no changes. If it is to keep the message board on the high road, then some changes are necessary. Whether password is the right change, I don't know. But see no reason why you shouldn't field test it.

DR1 will certainly not be the first site to require passwords. Several security message boards that I check do, too, as well as others.

Default ROB>>>Re: Let's see what happens...

I really support your idea if board is faster, passwords should not be a problem, here is my post to request for Bravenet link.

In Response To: -link to Bravenet board ? (Squat)

Go there if you like, nothing wrong with Rob's suggestions of a onetime password, sure he will have more control but he is the one who has setup the board and deserves these rights.
I participate in many boards as I travel worldwide not only to the DR and some other boards require 2 minutes to login with a password. So what is the big deal, what Rob also needs is some ad hoc moderators to help him police the board policies.

Default My 2 cents

I, for one, do not want a password. It would limit the participation and slow things down. I see no benefit whatsoever from having to use a password. Maybe sombody could enlighten me.

Default 2 minutes to login???

Do you mean 2 minutes to sign up and get your password? Once you have a password, it should take seconds. My problem is remembering all the different user names and passwords I have used at different times on different sites.
