Fabio Guzman can surely help you. He is the attorny for many expatriats living on the North Coast, including me. His office is in Sosua. You can contact him by email at fguzman@drlawyer.com or guzman.ariza@codetel.net.do, though his website www.drlawyer.com or by phone in Sosua 571-2880.

Actually, any attorney could draw this up for you, but if it is important, you want to be certain it is done right. You can have that confidence with Fabio. During the 16 years that I have lived in the DR, I have seem countless persons get into serious financial problems because they saved a few dollars on their lawyer's fee. Personally, I wouldn't use anyone else.

Default Be very careful!!

You must be specific as to what you are empowering another person to do in your name!!
You could end up oweing the National Debt. Seriously, be careful.

I second that. I've heard of several cases on the north coast where foreigners used lawyers for the process of buying property, and property ended up being titled in the lawyer's name, but bought with the client's money! Sometimes the client doesn't even find out about this until 5 years down the road, after they've dumped a lot more money into the place.

Do not trust that your lawyer will represent your best interests. Many times they don't.

What is this power of attorney for? Let me follow up on the suggestion made by Jim. I go a little further: A power of attorney, specially given to a Dominican, whom perhaps you know nothing about, and even knowing about, is a power to your bankruptcy. That also includes to foreigners and ex-pat friends.Dominican documents can be used to have you stripped of your skin, if you still have it by the time the dust settles.
And attorneys here, like everywhere else are a class to be weary of.
