Default BOYCOTT PRODUCTOS SOSUA

I know that you guys on the other parts of the island don't have to live with this but you wouldn't believe what we're living with tonight. I, for one, have not bought any Producto Sosua products for several years (for other reasons) but please support us now.

I wish at least, people in Sosua would stop buying there, but unfortunately I don't even see this. Some products are a few Pesos cheaper there, so they hold their breath and enter the shop...
It wouldn't affect the company, but give a signal.

Hasn't anyone a good contact with some media (newspaper, TV)?

The STENCH last night even over close to Casa Marina Reef was unbearable. At 11:30 PM it was almost impossible to breath and everyone felt like they were going to vomit up their last meal.
I have not shopped at that place since they started polluting the atmosphere many months ago. This time it was real close to the odour of sewer gas and dead animal parts..all over town,

Default Productos Sosua: who to buy from

Why don't you guys give the rest of us the full story. It hasn't been in the news and I'd like to know.

For the last few years I have been trying to create a "buying conscience" among my relatives and friends. I believe that we should "reward" with our purchase those companies that stand on the same things we believe in. Many Dominican companies have taken this new road in the last years, they have started to support such things as ecology, education, etc. If the price and quality are somewhat similar I will always pick the product from the company that a) is Dominican, b) supports a cause I believe in c) buys from my company or companies that are my customers. Unfortunately people most times make their choices based mostly on prices.

A few examples:

Helados Bon: they are supporting reforestation.
Banco de Reservas: supporting the protection of whales
Prod. JaJa: they employ people from my town and buy some of their products from growers in my town (not to forget that my friend D.D. grows their corn, the sweetest of the world).

I am of course not mentioning a whole lot of them, but there are more. So, tell me what goes on with Sosua and I will spread the message.

Pib, I respect and applaud your conscience. Also, the D.R. has the best of many things: Best Pilsener, Best Rum, best sancocho, maybe best amber, etc. I even had the best Mexican Fajita in the D.R. And I've been to the Mexican countryside! However, Ohio has the best sweet corn, and this has been corroborated by Dominicans.

Keep up the good fight, and I'll eat an extra steak in your stead.

:-P

P.S. YES, tell us what is going on in Sosua? I keep hearing of this and never get the whole story. If they are stinking up the town then they should clean up their act or be shut down. We have that same problem in Ohio with "Egg-Factories" which are these indoor megafarms. They pollute the whole place and generate millions of flies. The people who live nearby can't even sit on their porches. The EPA has been trying to shut them down and the Neighbors have been suing them.

This is so disappointing. We have planned our trip to Sosua and look forward to it for months-now we hear this. There must be something that can be done, if it is as bad as stated here. There will be a new hotel opening soon and many others already there. Many restaurants as well. Can't they all start something in order to save tourist business? A petition - adjustment to production hours - etc.

Default Steak and Dominican corn

Have and enjoy your steak, I have nothing against people eating meat. Heck, I use leather stuff. It would be hypocritical of me if I said it was bad killing the cows for consumption but ok to kill them to make cool shoes.

Back to the corn, I haven't tried corn from Ohio (at least knowingly) but my opinion that D.D.'s corn is the sweetest of the world is not an entirely objective opinion, but that corn is really sweet I promise. Anyway, anything he'd grow will taste sweet to me. Even lemons.

I was talking to the mayor today and he said the problem was caused by broken down equipment and he is expecting to have the problem resolved within a few days. Let's hope he's right.
