Default The Shooting of Dominican Senator

The board has been very quiet about the shooting of a Dominican Senator. I am not surprised at all at the event. This is not an indication of increased violence in Dominican society. It is a by-product of corruption that will lead to more violence.

But the violence will be selective. It will be directed at those who live a fast-paced life outside of the law and or taking advantage of their political power. Major crimes in DR are mostly inside jobs and underworld deals.

Our Senate and Chamber of Deputies has become in some ways a branch of the Dominican underworld. Already two major figures have been shot in a few months. More will follow until the Dominican people clean up this mess with their votes.

We continuously see key political and government figures in very shady places and meeting with very strange people. Cellular phones ringing constantly, but not from constituents. The dirty deal is the thought for the day. Hopefully, if our vote does not clean up our legislative bodies, maybe the crime lords themselves will take care of it. It's a sorry spectacle.

And, beware of the obituaries and hero worship to be heard over the already bought-off press and TV/Radio talk shows. Whatever happens with the investigation you can be sure the truth will not come out.

As everything down here, politics is rotten, full of corruption, ran by thieves who don't give a damn about anything, except getting richer... I am not so surprised violence is coming down so hard on us with a PRD gvt... Look at Jamaica in the 70's... Gunmens hired by politicians all over the island...

TW, what do you think is going to happen with our government? These are the people voted in, but now they need to be ran out, and if these crime lords are gonna take them out, who will be next in power? Who should be?

Default You need a few muckrackers in the DR

One thing I have noticed about the media reporting corruption in the DR is that names or names of businesses are not mentioned. The scam is briefly outlined without holding individuals accountable.

TW:
You have made a generalized accusation without giving any back up information or facts. I agree that Dominican Politics are, at times corrupt and, at times, misguided. You did not mention that this particular Senator voted for passage of the bill against MONEY LAUNDERING the day before the attack. Was that a message for the lower house members when that particular bill comes up for a vote before them? Who knows? Domincian Politics are sometimes corrupt. United States politics are, sometimes, just as corrupt.

I have posted About the thief, and ganster that run the gov't there. I was in SD when George Blanco was in office. It does not matter whose in the special interest have more access to those in political office than those that vote. The only time the populace has a say so is at election time. Here as well as there, there is a limited DEMOCRACY. Special interest allways have elected officials under control. There sholud be regulations, as to contributions by business and the wealthy to politicians, they are up for sale.

Default Re: Capt. Larry:Scoundrel Gomez

Capt. Larry: Dario Gomez was(he died)a scoundrel like all the others in that chamber of legislative snakes. He was a wheeler-dealer who drove around a big jeepeta with a cellular ringing 24 hours a day and bodyguards all over. These guys today make Trujillo look like a minor leaguer.

He was also a big mouth who fought with everybody and thought he was a king maker at the Senate. He did not even want to face his constituents for ree-election and want it to pass a bill to extend his term in office for two years. He was the leader of that rogue group and unfortunately, in memory of this jackal, they will probably pass the bill. The guy was in my opinion "exterminated" by his own kind. Good riddance!
