Default Re: A DR Constitutional Crisis?

Gringo:

This has been rehashed here in several posts. Hipolito will run again, unless better heads prevail in the private meetings he is having in Juan Dolio over the holidays with cooler heads, or if by the close of the end of his term, his conscience and repeated denials strike a note of shame.

Obviously, this is a man who has turned into a tyrant overnight and the ring that sorrounds him is an association of political rascals, among them Guido Gomez Mazara, Hernani Salazar, Pedro Franco Badia and Eligio Jaquez. Millions are floating to buy off votes. People are being threatened.

Even the press is not inmune from corruption by Hipolito and his gang. And those who do not go along pay the price. I just painfully saw this afternoon how the last program by political commentator Marino Zapete was cancelled and pulled off the TV airwaves on Channel 23 by order of Guido Gomez Mazara, because Zapete showed a video that others did not dare make public, where Mazara says that "The medicine that we distribute thru PROMESE(government low price medicine) must be distributed with a political criteria, only for those who support us and members of our party". In the same video he stated that "we will not be "pendejos" and should make the necessary reforms to the constitution that are convenient to us and our party". In the video Mazara appeared arrogant, Napoleonic and insensitive. That and the recent huge booing he received in Altos de Chavon have made him extremely sensitive to criticism, but very unwise in his decisions. The fat lady waits.
