Punta Cana in June 2000 - Need Lots of Info

Hola Folks,

I have been reading all of the helpful info on Punta Cana and I have a few of my own questions that I hope someone can answer.

1. I will be staying at the Occidental Flamenco, can anyone tell me about this property ?

2. Can you snorkel in Punta Cana without having to rent a boat ?
If yes, Where ?

3. Are there any places outside of the resorts in that shouldn't be missed as far as good food and fun are concerned ?

4. I have read mixed reviews on booking day trips. Some reviews say spend the extra $ and book with your tour group and others say you don't have to. How do I know which one to do ? I will be traveling with Apple Vacations and their day trips range from $21 to $195.

5. Is a 12 hour day trip to Santo Domingo worth the $55 and the time ? What about Bavaro Runners Mountain Safari for 8 hrs and $75 and then there is the infamous Monster Truck 11 hr adventure fo $85 ? Any advice ?????
