Default Hurricanes?

Hi all: I know it's pretty early to be trying to predict anything, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows the hurricane patterns over DR in the last few years (of course I'm aware of Georges). My fiance and I are planning to be married in Punta Cana and would like to do so in October. From what I've heard from my travel agent, this is at the tail end of hurricane season and it might be a gamble. She did say, however, that the season seems to be ending a little earlier as of the last few years and we would probably be safe. Is this true? We really don't want to get "hurricaned out" (vs. rained out - haha) during such a special time.....Any help would be apprectiated.

MARIE I realize you are trying to "cover all bases" on such an important day but it is sort of like asking if it will rain on the day of your wedding. There is no way to predict that. And hurricane season, well even when a hurricane developes there is not a good way to predict the route it is going to take.
The hurricane season is from June until November. It does not change regardless of what your travel agent says. Also the peak months of hurricane season is August-September. Best wishes

I was in the DR during Hurrianes Georges last year. At that time I was told that the last major hurricane to hit the DR was 20 years before, in 1979.

For whatever reason, the DR is not struck too commonly by hurricanes.

Good luck

Noone can know for sure of course. But as I live in DR, I keep
updated on whatever info i can get. www.noaa.gov is a good site
(National Oceanographic something) physically located in Miami
(among all). They predict an above average hurricane season
this year. (More hurricanes than average). www.goes.noaa.gov
also have the latest satellite pictures from various areas,
updated every 6 hours. It's a good idea to check it out often
in the weeks before, so you can cancel or postpone in case...

Best wishes and welcome to DR!

The chances of hurricane winds and rains on the day of your wedding in October are less than .001%. After the ceramony, who is going to be concerned with what is going on outside anyway?

Have a good one and enjoy the Dominican Republic.
