Not kidding: everything from aspirins to Yo-Yos (Can't think of anything that starts with "Z".
T-shirts, jeans, shoes.
Outboard motors, kayaks, life vests} -> that's being nasty but true.
Soap, shampoo, hair curlers, deoderants, razor blades
Everything you take for granted: Vicks, cough medicine. Real medicine like penicillin.
Clean out your closets.
spark plugs for any car made in '57, '58 '59. Parts (anything) for harleys made in the 50s.

Whatever you take - make sure you take some balloons for the kids. The pads (the kind of that you write on, lift up the sheet, it disappears) - I don't know the name. Coloring books, crayons. The happiness seen in the faces of some of the children is worth the trip.

Your brother can bring:
bars of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, sanitary products, advil, tylenol, aspirin, razors, towels (hand and bath), old clothing, T-shirts, lotion, nail files, nail polish, spanish language novels/books ...

Think about EVERYTHING you use on a daily basis and THOSE are things that are in short supply in Cuba. Smaller toiletries are always the easiest because they pack well and are light-weight.

Clothes and Tshirts are EASY to give away, but take up more space. Good luck to your brother!

Hillbilly is right - they can use just about anything. Tell your brother to take lots of school supplies, they could really use them. Any personal items (ie sanitary products, soaps) are appreciated, as are the "extras" like nail polish, makeup and cologne. Don't forget the children either. "Hot Wheels", "Barbies", games and other toys will certainly make some kids very happy. Always carry gum to give out. When we were there last year, children were always asking for "TicTacs", so be sure to have some of those, too.
