Charlotte,

I think you actually mean the Dominican Fiesta (not Siesta). It is a nice hotel located on the Mirador Sur Park, which is a nice park in a nice & quiet part of town (I know, I lived just blocks from the hotel for four years) with a nice view of the city, but not very close to the nightlife or shopping or Malecon (seaside drive) that people visiting Santo Domingo usually go for. It's pretty good quality (I had my father stay there once) and staff are nice and attentive, but it's rather low-key. Tends to be the hotel many airline crews, tour groups and convention groups stay at (most major conventions & trade shows are held at the Dominican Fiesta).
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Keith

P.S. All right trivia fans -- what was the name of the Dominican Fiesta when it was first built? [Back when the Mirador Sur had almost no houses along it and a terrific view of the sea.] And Hillbilly, no fair you giving the answer (as you undoubtedly know it)!

Loews Dominicana... We lived 6 years in the DR, and a few blocks down the street (Avenida Anacaona).

DOMINICAN FIESTA HOTEL

Please be advised that hotel does not has nearby beaches, but a large swimming pool.

The closest beach is Boca Chica and you will need about 40 minutes drive to get there, but don't go on sundays because of the crowd.

In truth, NONE of the hotels in Santo Domingo has a nearby beach that people can swim at or even sunbathe on. You do NOT go to SD for the beach -- if that is what one is seeking, you go to Boca Chica, Bayahibe, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete, Playa Grande, Samana....

Thanks everyone for the info on the Dominican Fiesta. I'm going to be in Boca Chica for the other 10 days of my trip, so I can get the sunshine there. I'm staying at the Dominican Fiesta for 4 days because it is close to my friend's job. Thanks again. In 25 days I will be there! Yipee!
