Default Obtaining medical license

I am a physician in the US seeking to obtain a license to practice medicine in the Dominican Republic. Any information on where to obtain an application, etc. is appreciated.

Thanks

Thomas, let me tell you that it is a long and arduous process. I actually could have gone to medical school here and become a licensed physician quicker than the process of reciprocity. You begin the process at Salud Publica (Public Health)and in concert with the University of Santo Domingo (UASD) where you will apply for and take exams (both oral and written IN SPANISH) in Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn. Prior to the exams you must have all of your documents translated into Spanish by an OFFICIAL JUDICIAL TRANSLATOR. It took almost three years to full fill the examination requirements simply because they kept cancelling the exams and rescheduling without notice. Basically here is the procedure. Salud Publica, then to UASD, then everything goes to CONES (sort of the National Board of Higher Education) to make sure all the requirements are met and everything is Kosher, then back to Salud Publica and then to the President, who declares you are licensed by Presidential decree and then back to Salud Publica where you actually obtain the damn license. YOU MUST ALSO BE A RESIDENT OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PRIOR TO STARTING THE PROCESS. There are new rules and monetary requirements on this, like a substantial bank deposit. I shall be happy to answer any other questions you might have in this regard, possibly privately would be best. ECH

Why Tom, you going to apply???
Remember, I am NOT really a doctor according to Arco and friends. Or have you forgotten......I guess then think I am a used car salesman or something totally foreign to the field. LOL

Default Not quite that bad, but *PIC*

There is a lot of paperwork involved.

My son was commenting on this very thing the other day because the country is getting flooded with Cubans that have been employed by the Government in hospitals all over the place. Generally speaking, none of them have fulfilled the requirements.

Assuming you are a fully licensed M.D. in the US:
1) Complete Documentation, translated into Spanish and submitted to the Dominican Consulate for stamping.
2) Then it has to go to the Foreign Office for authentication of the signatures, essentially saying that the people that checked your U.S. certification are the ones that signed the things.
3) Applications etc that have to be donbe here, but as ECH has said there is a long and silly road for this to happen.

If you really want to do this, e-mail me and I will check with the AMD and see what they have to say. Then you can square it and that will be what you have to do...probably.

One last thing...WHY??
