I read that taxes have risen on all of our nasty vices. How much does a pack of 20 Nacional cigarettes cost now in the mercados?

Right... those nasty vices are costing more .... even here!!! Nacional 20 pesos, Malboro 22 pesos...but still cheap compared to Canada!!!

I did find my 'Newports' in a store on Cabarete! From what I hear you can't find them anywhere on the island! I think I paid $50 + pesos. Still compared to the US it's cheaper!

also are You allowed to bring in cigs from your own country?

we are going to the DR in feb to early march 2 weeks of sun and fun , first trip away from the kids in years, looking forward to talking to some of you canucks down there . (and any body else)
staying at pop beach resort and would like to know if this place is decent or not , it is hard to find any comments on it.
as long as it is warm , who cares,I will just park My snowmobile for a few weeks and find out what its like to sweat again.

Take your own Export "A"'s, buy them on the plane ot at the airport duty free, no problem at customs in DR

There are no dollars RD. In Mexico (and presumably D.R.)the symbol $ is also used for pesos, so $RD is read Dominican pesos. Likewise $US is resd US dollars.

Well Don't know just what you are looking for but here goes. RD $16.4 pesos = $1.00 us dollar so RD $20 pesos would be @ $ 1.22 US Dollar.

You're allowed to buy 2 cartons of cigs at Duty free at the airport. Being a Canuck myself I bring Canadian travellor's cheques and always round it out to 10 pesos = 1 cdn dollar when I'm trying to figure out the cost of something. Hope this helps. Have a great vacation!

You seem from Canada 1$ cn = about 10 dominican pesos.
You may bring in your cigarettes I think it's 1 carton per person. They caught me more than once with 3 cartons and nothing happened. Got lucky????????

Thanhs to all who responded this clears up my confusion (well at
least on those issues) . we are staying at the puerto plata beach resort and casino AMHSA chain in pop. Cannot seem to find more than 2 reviews on it , one good one not so good, it was 400.00 dollars Can. less than anything else and I guess I am a little concerned that it may not pay off to be a cheapskate.
If it is good then I can say to my wife "see I was right" if not
I will be in deep fecal matter and never live it down.
If any one has stayed there I would appreciate some info.
