Can any one tell me what the weather is like in June, thinking of going middle of June, and how safe is it.

I don't know what you mean by safe. If you think of the crime rate, the DR is a fairly safe place to be, also outside the resorts.

As you don't tell what part of the country you are going to be in it is difficult to give any valid information about the weather, as that varies considerably from area to area. The only thing guaranteed is that it will be hot.

But please provide some more specific information, and then maybe we can help with a more specific answer.

Regards,
Susanne

Hi Susanne, we would like to go to the North side of the island but don't really mind which part, We shall be there in the middle of June, if the south is best to go we will do that, would just like to know how much rain you do have in June, and what side of the island is it best to go. Open minded yet as we have never been there, playa dorado sosua, or santo dominga, I really do not know anything about the island at all so I am very open minded. Would not like it to be too touristy and is it a good idea to have a rental car, I do like to explore. I have been looking at the Coral Hamaca Beach Resort look nice have you any ideas or remarks about the place.

Hope you can help.

Sue

June is one of the driest months on the North shore, with less rain than in for instance Punta Cana.

You can almost be certain that you will get a heavy shower now and again - that is the order of things most of the time in the DR. But as stated - June is generally speaking quite dry in the North and somewhat wetter in Punta Cana.

You can study climate charts of the different destinations on www.hispaniola.com - chose travel guides and then climate.

Susie

When in June are you going? We are flying out on 10 June from Gatwick Airport. It will be my 5th visit. I really love the DR, we are staying on the North Coast and I can honestly say I've always had good weather. Yes you get really heavy showers -usually in the late afternoon or early evening but they don't last long and they can be quite refreshing after a long hot sunny day. My friend and I will be staying at the Fun Tropicale, it's a great resort.

Hi to everyone on the board, I visit every day and follow the threads but don't often post myself. Can't wait to visit island again. June seems such a long way away.

I have to drive in Mexico in my business, and I would not even dream of it on holiday in the D.R. You will spend less contracting a taxi for the days that you will need them, and not have the stress and liability of driving. Plus you will get to see the scenery safely while riding.

I agree! There are rules of the road in the DR, but you will most likely have to be scraped off the tar before you get a chance to figure out what they are.

Taxis are not the only option for public transport. For long distances - such as going to Samana (which you ought to) - you can take comfortable and very fast long distance buses. For shorter rides, jump on the guagua (shared taxi or mini bus). It is fun, UNcomfortable, cheap and very genuinely Dominican!

Regards,
Susanne
