I agree, from conversations I've had with some Dominican men they assume you are wealthy. I try to break it down to them and explain but I'm not sure if they belive me anyhow?
First of all for the majority of the Dominicans who are poor they have in general a well entrenched "belief" that all foreigners that visit here on vacation are personally wealthy.
