kobi - we're going on March 22nd. Hope you'll be able to post a trip report before we go.

I love staying at the Hamaca. I never understood, though, why a guest would have to pay for a lock for a safe.

We did have a problem a couple of years ago. My son's watch went missing from the room. We reported it to security, and they keep a record of how many times, and at what times your door was opened by your key card. The watch went missing while we were off the resort and the room was entered. Now, we don't know if it was entered by maintenance or the cleaning staff (they were replacing curtains).

After we reported the watch missing, our maid became very unfriendly to us - we weren't accusing anyone, but maybe she got in trouble. After we got home, they "found" the watch - said it was under a little ledge inside of the safe. They mailed it to us. We completely checked the safe and there is a little space towards the front of the safe where something could be left behind (we knew about that and checked there).

Don't know what happened, but wish they would change those safes to the ones where you can set your own password.

Oh, and if you do pay cash for your lock rental, make sure you get a receipt -- one year they told us that we didn't pay for the lock upfront and tried to charge us again on checkout. We had to argue that one, and in the end they didn't charge us, but now we make sure we keep the receipt in a safe place.

Please don't think I'm trying to make too much of a big deal about this because we love staying at the Hamaca and will continue to vacation there.
