Ringo, enough about Brazil. You made the point. If this thread is to stay open, it will discuss dengue in the DR, not Brazil.

Yes, dengue can occur in any tropical country. It has occurred in the DR, and likely will again. My own wife had it in SD in the late 1990s.

The question in my mind is, just how big or small is the problem in the DR. According to PAHO, as of March there had been more dengue cases reported (to the hemispheric epidemiological surveillance system) this year in Puerto Rico (772) than the DR (0). But I don't for one minute believe that there have been zero dengue cases in the DR in 2008...
