In my experience, I've never got an answer to any e-mails I've sent the Spanish consulate (or is it the embassy you go and apply for visas, residencia, etc.? I confuse that term with the house of the ambassador), but I used to get quick answers from their Cultural Center.
Visa info from MAEC:
Requirements:
Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación | Gobierno de España
and
Visa types:
Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación | Gobierno de España
Info about the consulate and the embassy
Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación | Gobierno de España

About Madrid Barajas:
Aena.es - Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aerea - Madrid-Barajas
If the AENA link doesn't work, go to aena.es and choose the airport on the drop down list at the top left.
Hope it helps. All the links are in Spanish btw.

The London embassy when you click on the Visa tab takes you to some advertising page via a popup, even though supposedly blocked. Madrid Airport doesn´t have a page of its own , it is operated by some commercial company who only give you information about external to airport contacts. I think we´ll be better off telephoning Puerto Plate to see if they have any spare seats on a charter flight!
