Well I made a quick (started at 3 am returned at midnight) trip to the northern coast, to take some more pictures. I drove 800km in 14 hours of driving time. SD – (got into dense fog at San Francisco Macoris – needed to slow down to about 10mi/h – lost some precious time here) - Nagua – Boba (got to this little village just for sunrice) - Pueblo Nuevo (some nice secluded strips of beaches here) - Playa La Entrada (also some nice spots, but lots of rubbish left behind by the locals) - Playa Diamante - Cabrera - Playa Breton - Cabo Frances - Playa Preciosa (probably the nicest beach on the whole NW coast, that I have seen) - Playa Grande (I was not very impressed by this beach, I kind of expected more) - Playa Caleton (nice, but spoiled by rubbish again) - Laguna Gri Gri - Rio San Juan - Playa Bahia Principe (nothing special) - Playa Magante (so and so) - Beaches near Gaspar Hernandez (with lots of old tree trunks) - Cabarete (where the beach did not strike me much, and the mess at the main street was terrible) – Sosua (made the mistake of driving into the “town” lost about 30 minutes trying to get out again – I am not much of a fan of resort towns) – Far far east side of Playa Dorada known as Playa Bergantin where you can drive on a beach after driving some miles through sugar cairn and some roads with deep pool (it rained the day before) – Puerto Plata (by this time it got bit overcast, and I started to run out of time, so I skipped Costambar and Cofresi Beaches. My plan was to drive along the coast to Monte Cristi, but since I left Puerto Plata at 3:00 pm, it was obviously impossible to get to Monte Cristi. So I continued along the coast via Maimon – Cambiaso and La Sabana to Luperon. I was planning to visit some nice secluded beaches along the cost, but most visits did not materialize due to closed gates and private property signs (I planned the trip through google earth). I also had to backtrack a little when I arrived to a gully that I could not cross. I nearly got all the way to Punta Pastilla, and end up at Playa los Cocos or Suflecito beach (not sure what the right name is). I could have gone on and explore this coast on bike, but had no time. Eventually I got back to the main paved road leading from Imbert to Luperon and drove to Luperon, visited the port and the beach, drove to Isabela to see the ruins and the beach there, which was surprisingly nice and tranquil. By this time it was 5:45 pm, and I decided to end my trip in Punta Rucia. Had to cross two rivers and drove pretty fast to get to Punta Rucia before sundown, made it just in time got there in one hour, so had 15 minutes before sunset. Finally I had a bath at the beautiful beach (unfortunately also full of rubbish). My original plan was to continue from here along the coast all the way to Monte Cristi, but that would take another 2-4 hours, depending on my photo stops, and I was out of light, so I turned back and drove back to Santo Domingo. I made a wrong turn in Los Hidalgos, and by time I realized it I was too far to drive back so I ended up driving east instead of south and joined the Santaigo – Imbert road at Altamira Passing Santiago I got into a strong down pour so I had to slow down considerably got back at midnight fairly tired. I will post the pictures on my side eventually.
