I'm in the U.S.A. currently.

My daily carry piece is an Israeli Military Industries Jehrico 941. (9mm) Yes it's a boat anchor and I own two. I carry in a Fobus paddle holster which helps in the weight issue of the gun. IMI also now makes a polymer 9mm (Baby Jehrico) which I prefer over any Glock.

If you see the Tanfoglio Witness, (Italian mfg) it is the same frame and gun basically. Last one I saw here was around $499USD

AMT made a very concealable 9mm back-up on it's 45 DAO frame. I carry the .45 as a back-up (wish I could find an AMT 9mm) and in some situations the AMT .45 is all I have on me. AMT had some issues back in the day, but I've never had a problem in over 1000 rounds through it.

If you could find a Baretta 9mm in the DR, you'd be doing yourself a service to own one. They are not my pick, but they're a quality product. I know certain police are carrying them in SD. I've spoken to a few DR LEO carrying the H2000, which in the holster, appeared to be a Glock clone to me.....

Taurus...reminds me of bull---t. Seems a lot of what is in the DR gun shops is South American made product....and there's not much quality there in my opinion....if you've got deep pockets HK or a SIG is the way to go based on DR inventory.
