I guessed that you meant "cheap" in the first quote, rather than "ship", but I don't get what you mean when you say "absolved".
Absolved: to set free from an obligation or the consequences of guilt
Is that what you mean, that you won't be punished for your guilt in doing God knows what?
When Robert asked you what you had done for your country, I don't think that it included things for which you will need absolution.
He meant positive contributions.... good things.
