Just how salty is the water, and can you treat it with a softener?
Thanks.

It is pretty salty not that I tend to notice when bathing etc. We use it in the pool as well of course, but have to add a lot of muriatic acid to make it ph neutral for the chlorine to work, but that is fine. The problem with the one well is that it is large and so it has sort of dead animals in it which can be a bit unpleasant, but the other well is new and is only 4 inches across - just a tube drilled down to 24 feet so just has the normal bacteria. I use it for cooking and have never been sick, but I don't drink it. I am sure you could buy some sort of softener and I know some people throw chlorine tablets down theirs, but it is always there and the pressure is brilliant. There is also a large tank which fills up on the roof, so even if the electric goes we have water for a while at least, and the big well has a bucket too, so if we have no light for a long time after a hurricane then at least we can get water from the well!!!
