Thanks for the great review KateP. My husband and I are going to be at the Catalonia for New Years for 11 days. We are booked on the Bavaro side. Do you think the Royal side is worth it? What (besides the newer rooms) do you get for the extra money? We stayed at the Barcelo in Cancun in the spring and it had an upgraded "Palace" side. We were able to use all the Palace restaurants for $15 each whenever we wanted so it worked out to be a much less expensive option than paying for the upgrade. Does the Catalonia Royal have different restaurants? Can you pay a fee to use them? Thanks for any advice that you can give me on this resort.
