My friends Jose Bourget and Annette Snyder run a small foundation in Las Terrenas called Fundacion Mahatma Gandhi.
Fundacion Mahatma Gandhi which they staff primarily with volunteer. They would be delighted to have help. They run a small library - which is the only library in town, and a summer children's camp, and have also done some work with women's health issues.
Jose is a professor - on line- with the U of MD- , a Dominican-American, who returned here six years ago with his American wife and child - now they have another child. I want to recommend them to everyone who is passing through LT or has a house there or an apartment because they are truely wonderful people, dedicated and community minded.
So far, they have been running the show from their own pockets and some contributions - and they do ask volunteers to contribute some money, or supplies, or something, if they can --- but they are not making a LIVING off this -- which is what lots of people are doing (NOT that I am opposed to people making a living out of humanitarian work - just that it is hard for many foreigners to understand why they should pay $1000 a week to "volunteer"
They are specifically looking for a grant writer, if that happens to be in your skill set//
But do contact them and they can help set you up.
Certainly LT is a lovely place to be and help is very much needed there.
THANK YOU !
