I can see where you would say that the role was created by men since historically it's been a male dominated world.
However, survival of humanity would not have been possible without the likelihood that the male has to have offspring to keep the family "alive". In the past men went to war, to hunt etc.. and it was imperative that men had to have as many children as possible for the tribe etc. to survive. So in a round about way Yes it was created by men, but it is built into the DNA for survival. Are we humans, animals? However, we all share the need to survive that is more instinctive, than created.
"La Otra" apparently has needs too, that she seeks fulfill from a male. I would guess that this role has been created for us by women. Wouldn't that be fair to say?
This same "survival" had families pawn off their daughter to the best caretaker (men) for the survival of HER family. Historically, the male was allowed to have more than one wife IF he was able to maintain her and her family. No doubt this was more honorable. What has really changed? It appears that the more "evolve" we become the more things stay the same.
