Correct. Obama has nothing to do with this. He went as a good-faith gesture as the President and gave a good speech.

This was more, like it always is, about backroom politicking than Obama "losing it" for Chicago. South America was due a summer Olympics and this was just their time, that's all.

And it wasn't just Brazil who was throwing their weight into it, it was others in South America also. Many vested interests converged to get Brazil the games. It happens.

Back in 1995 Colombia hosted the cycling world championships and everyone complained until the end-the crime, the political instability, the poverty, the lack of infrastructure, the altitude-blah blah blah.

Guess what? Everything went off without a hitch, and the course route for the men's professional race was rated one of the top five all-time championship routes.
