Default flights held-up

Has anybody heard news about a purported strike at the AILA airport?
I've just being told that no int'l flight is currently departing from SDQ.

Any further news on this would be appreciated.

The news available is that the Air Controllers are on strike. Heard also that the government has sent in military air controllers.

Thanks for the confirmation. If anyone happens to hear once flights resume, I'd appreciate an update.

Thanks again.

Lightbulb Checking AA Web Site

Arriving flights from MIA and SJU JFK and BOS so far today have not been more than 10-25 minutes late. Except the first JFK flight. Departing flights are running late but seem to have left.

This is the story, as told by my friend who just flew in this afternoon with Air Canada.
She was due to land at 2:05 pm.
When they reached the Turks & Caicos, the pilot announced that they were going into a 45 minute holding pattern, as the traffic controllers at POP airport were on some type of strike that was allowing only one incoming plane per 30 minutes.
After the 45 minute delay, it was announced that there would be an additional 30 minute delay.
They eventually landed at 3:45 PM.
It would seem that several other aircraft had to divert to other airports, as they were getting low on fuel.
Marco.

What Now? What's this one all about? Baldy refusing to give the controllers their bottle of Brigal, sack of cement, and sheet of zinc, so they want their cedulas back?

Default Airports closed ?

Apparently, the airport in Punta Cana was closed down yesterday by the Dominican government!

Civilian airport traffic controllers threatened a strike, and instead, the dominican government replaced the workers with military control.

Here's a quote from the Sun-Sentinal in Florida:

"The Dominican government installed military controllers, who allowed only one plane per half hour to land in the country's capital of Santo Domingo. Normally, 20 to 40 planes per hour arrive, officials said. Smaller airports were shut down, including in Punta Cana"

The NATCA condemned the lockout of civilian controllers.

"The actions of the government in the Dominican Republic are, at best, reckless," NATCA Executive Vice President Ruth Marlin said. "Not only is the government refusing to negotiate working conditions with its controllers, it has put the safety of its air traffic control system in jeopardy."
