Flights from Punta Cana

Hi all. Wasn't sure where to post this, but I have a friend who lives in Punta Cana, and my family and I were thinking of inviting this friend for a holiday here in August. A birthday suprise. So what I was wondering, was how would I go about arranging this, not sure what exactly is needed in regards to paperwork, or even what airline to use. When we go to DR we always book the tours so I don't even know if there are just flights available from Punta Cana to Toronto? Any info would be appreciated.

BUT...

If your friend is Dominican the whole Visa thing could be a huge problem and the flight is very expensive (IMHO).

If he has both US and Canada vistors visas he can use any scheduled flights either non stop on the weekly Air Canada flight or via Miami or New York on American carriers.

If he doesn't have one or both then he can't come (or conenct via USA if no US visa) .

I'd suggest that if he has no Canadian visitor visa ( unless he doesn't need one, for all we know he's Canadian) the odds of getting a visa are slim and none and Slim left town. And by August even if he may qualify that may be insufficient time.

But as for the flights there are enough from PUJ to suffice.

Final obvious comment if you are a young woman and this friend is a male resort worker, he won't get a visa and he is probably asking several other women the same thing, and for money too. Words to the wise.

First of all he is a male, not a resort worker, he owns his own business, he is only a really good friend and that's all.
I guess I will have to tackle the Canadian Government to find out exactly how long and what exactly is needed.

The Visa reqeusts are handled by the Consulate in the capital and so the inquiry about processes, costs, chances really should be asked of the consular officers there as they decide for the most part. FYI - in 2002, the last year for which data is available we granted 202 visitor's visas to Dominicans. Vs. something like 450,000 granted the other way, e.g. tourist cards for Canadians. Good luck.

I appreciate all your input, I checked out the Immigration website and found out that because he's Dominican and it's on the list of Countries that need travel visa's, I need to send away for a package which is 65.00 U.S. (Canadian forms don't know why the payment is in U.S funds) anyway I need to buy these forms/application for him to come for a visit. I don't get it though. He is not coming to stay. He has become a good friend to my parents and they just wanted to bring him up for a couple weeks and it just seems like such a hassle. We don't want him to work here or anything. You mentioned about him contacting the consulate there, if he does that do you know if I still have to do the paperwork at my end or will they do all that for him? I am beginning to think it would be easier for my parents to just go there for two weeks, but him and his family treated mine so well they just want to do the same I guess.
