do passengers on the Iberia Madrid-Santo domingo flight via sanjuan clear Us-customs?
Im wondering do passengers on the Iberia Madrid to santo domingo flight via san juan clear Us-customs or can they just go through a transit lounge?I know they need a visa regardless..but whats the procedures?

Yes.
I took that flight two days ago. I cleared customs, was photographed, fingerprinted and ear-tagged... ok, not eat-tagged, but the rest remains. You need a US visa even if you are on transit in American territory. A pain in the behind for sure.

I dont know, i have purchased a ticket by SERVIBERIA NETHERLANDS
for
Thursday 24 June 2004
08:35 Amsterdam - Madrid 11:10 (A320)
12:50 Madrid - San Juan - Santo Domingo 17:40 (B747)
They didnt tell me about a Visa because via San Juan, i dont need to transfer to any other aircraft because the same aircraft will fly to Santo Domingo it is only a stop.
I will call SERV-IBERIA to be secured!

I was told the schedule included options without the San Juan stopover. I am taking that flight this evening, and as far as I know it is direct SDQ - MAD.

Some days of the week Iberia stops in San Juan, some don't. I don't to stop there on the way back. Now, if you bought the ticket for the day when they will stop in San Juan then you do need a US visa.

Well my problems is resolved, i have an Dutch Passport so no problem at all.
Well i had no other option to fly direct routes
Martinair All flights FULL
Iberia Some seats available but via SJU (return is Non Stop)
Air France Compared with Iberia too expensive you pay also more TAX
Paid € 739 EUROS inx TAX and COSTS (IBERIA, 17 April 2004)
If you will book the same dates you will pay now € 1690 INC TAX AND COSTS
I will depart 24 June from AMS-MAD-SDQ (via SJU)
return on 6th August SDQ-MAD-AMS

us Border Patrol required to clear customs and immigration.
Long time ago, when i was at sju airport, we use to ask permition to immigration and customs to leave the transit passanger on the aircraft.
the only require that the crew also has to stay on the aircraft.
We know that TWOV (transit without visa) is coming back some day, with need regulations.

Well, duh! I should have remembered to say that. IF you need a visa to enter US territory then you will need a visa to enter as a transit pasenger. Also, if you don't need the visa but have an old passport (non-bio-metric or some such) then you will either have to get a new one or a visa.
My husband, a EU citizen, also has a US visa as required in his line of work. He wen't through the same line as I did, and was subjected to the same process. He had been in the US very recently, they still photographed him and fingerprinted him again. When he asked the INS (or whatever is called now) officer if he had to go through the same thing every time he arrived in the US he said that yes, he would have to.

I was at the British Embassy in SD yesterday and was told that as from October the US will require visas if you still hold one of the old passports.
The good news is that the embassy here can now issue the new ones.

So i have a new passport, Kingdom of the Netherlands, the newest one, do i need have a VISA to just stop at SJU, i will contact IBERIA to be secured.
