Airfare, Cheaper from the DR?

Hi!
I will be traveling to the DR this coming summer from Atlanta. I will be there for three months. I would like to fly to Guatemala for a week while I'm down there, and I figured that flying to Guatemala City from Santo Domingo would be cheaper than flying from Atlanta another time. I looked up airfare prices, and it's actually very expensive on the site I looked up. Does anyone know an approximate price, I found $730 round trip. Also, would it be less expensive to purchase the ticket at the SDQ airport? Thanks!

You will get soaked the ITBIS tax which is 16% and will wind up flying on the same route anyway so buy before you go. You know you will have to fly to Panama on COPA or to Miami on AA then go to Guatemala AFAIK you can't fly directly from SDQ.

I think with a bit of planning one ticket ATL-SDQ-MIA-GUA-MIA-ATL may cost less than trying to do two trips.
