Cool Planning a cheap trip to the DR

Does anyone know any cheap places to find discount prices on trips to the DR from Toronto, Canada? I've been looking all over the web to see if I can find any specials for the first or second week of January. Has anyone ever waited to book last minute, do the prices actually stay as low as they are advertised if you book a week before? The last time I tried to book a trip last minute I got screwed, the price went up about $200. If anyone knows of any discount places to get a package let me know!

Hola,

I've booked last minute for the last two years to the DR. I live in Toronto and there are lots of websites you just have to keep on checking until prices drop. Book 1 or 2 weeks before you want to go. I"ve booked one week before I spent $ 800 with taxes for all inclusive. But do have fun off the resort much more fun!! I book all inclusive for the cost.
Here are some sites:
http://www.selloffvacations.com/home.htm
http://www.itravel2000.com/
http://www.belairtravel.com/packages.asp
http://sunholidays.ca/
http://www.travellastminute.ca/

I don't understand how the price went up $200.00? I've never had that problem. I have booked with Belair travel and itravel 2000 for trips and had no problem.
Good luck and have fun I always do !!!

It's a little early for January bargains. Look at the sites that music has posted but look again the begining of next month for January.

Default Tour Operator Control

I am a Canadian Travel agent currently living in the DR. Last year there were less sell offs as the Tour operators were trying to take back contol of their pricing from the sell off agencies and the consumer and stop operating at a loss. This is why some departure dates actually had the prices go up instead of down at the last minute. In previous years, too many people were waiting to book until the last minute hoping to get the cheapest deal possible.
In order to encourage early bookings they have offered many incentives including early bird price reductions and sets of luggage. I have had several clients take advantage of these.
You will still see some specials but if you want to stay at a decent hotel and not a dump (usually they sell off the least desirable places), book early.

Greetings from Nova Scotia.

My only problem with this statement is that two of the largest discounting agencies in the business (bricks & mortar or on-line) are www.selloffvacations.com and www.sunholidays.ca Both of these agencies are owned by First Choice PLC which also owns Signature Vacations and others. In addition other major travel conglomorates in Canada are making moves in the same direction. MyTravel PLC (which owns Sunquest, Alba, ToursMaison and more) has launched www.MyTravel.ca an on-line agency and there will be more. How can they take control back when they are the ones causing a loss of control in the first place. It's just a game to them and we are the pawns who pay the bills.

IMHO.
