Santiago to Leon, Mexico?
Saludos, frequent fliers, I am contemplating a somewhat convoluted (for me) sojourn from Houston to Santiago to Leon (BJX), Mexico. Which airline would you recommend? I normally fly Continental to almost everywhere but are there Mexican or other airlines that would be cheaper from the DR to Leon? Mexico City? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I have endeavored to use expedia, etc. but without much luck.

There are no Mexican airlines at all leaving from the DR, even when Mexicana was there it was just SDQ/MIA and they couldn't complete so they left.
Did you consider COPA with connections in Panama? Otherwise it's AA to MIA and then west or CO all the way back to Newark and then back.

You might do well trying
STI-SJU and then SJU to Mexico City
I haven't looked it up but it stands to reason.
There are 169 dollar R/T flights from STI - SJU two flights a day.
Or, Santiago MIA Mexico City....That's how I go to Guatemala...

Muchas gracias, Aviastar, for your very detailed response. Is that fare around $1800? I was hoping for something cheaper but that may be the best I can do. I have a great deal to learn about air traffic that doesn't originate in Houston.

Return trip!
Sho'nuff, honey! I hope I can make it and this time I intend to do more than point at things and traipse about the country saying, "Que?" y "Otra vez, por favor?" If I can't pick up more espanol living in Guanajuato, then it's definitely a lost cause. The ONLY reason we are moving to Mexico and not Santiago is that we expect our first grandchild to debut in mid-May, and BJX is only two hours away--unless the boy pilot has a hot date awaiting in our fair city and then it averages about an hour and a half. My husband attributes the shorter time to favorable winds but I'm the romantic! Also, I would rather take a beating than go through Newark and tarry there a whole night before flying on to Santiago. I try to use my frequent flier miles and thus am at the mercy of the airlines' gurus who seem to prefer the Houston to Santiago route via Newark over the one involving Miami. Our daughter and her husband call LA home and it is easily accessible from Leon, too. I do love those direct flights but I can already tell that I'll have to be more flexible if I want to return to beautiful la Republica Dominicana.
Santiago has a special place in my heart and I WILL be back, and this time I intend to meet you, HB--por favor!!

Nancybelle, I just read the other day that Mexicana is starting fligts from Mexico City to Punta Cana, DR. By the way, do you also post on Mexonline, I think I've seen you there. You had a Guanajuato related post?

So Mexicana airlines is operating regular flight to Mexico city from La romana.
