Don't just blame the U.S. airlines for ending service toD.R.The landing fees and taxescharged by the dominican republic government are close to the highest in this hemisphere. You can buy a ticket on spirit airlines rountrip for $140 and pay $140 in taxes. Double other caribbean countries!!!

Very true. Freaking ridiculous. I could see if the money, as least the airport taxes were going to the airports. Like that bogus $10 tourist card that you buy right off the plane, then hand back over 10 yards away. Like WTF??? What a racket!!!

Can't blame the US airlines for not supporting such ridiculousness as the high taxes and landing fees, esp. in these turbulent financial times.

It looks like the Dominican government finally realizes that they are a big part of the problem. Felucho and others have scheduled an emergency meeting to look into reducing taxes on jet fuel, and also reducing landing fees and government charges on airline tickets.

Don't despair though, as they will also discuss a charge for passengers of cruise ships who disembark in DR, as they are not currently charged. Hey, the money for their new jeepetas has to come from somewhere!
