Air Dominicana.
This is for all the KNOW-IT-ALL's in the forum.
Air Dominicana has been flying charters for some time now. No publicity has been made at all, there is no need to if they are not to fly scheduled routes or sell tickets as a regular carrier.
Yes, they are operating an old 737-300 which is in very good shape (better than the old-ass A300 that most people hop on when they fly with AA), The aircraft is in top shape in all aspects, its even got above a 10.0 revision in the FMS Computer. Gimme a break... some of you people are bitching about the interior of the Aircraft and about the model etc. Why don't you bitch about airlines in Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia etc, that are operating extremely old DC-9's, 737-200's etc.???
Anyone that knows a little about aviation knows that most Startup companies do not buy BRAND SPANKING NEW aircraft, that is something that comes with time, once the market is secured and routes are stablished.
The 737-300 will be taken away in December, and it will be replaced by an 800 model plus an additional 800 will be added to the fleet.
Air Dominicana is right now in the application process with the DOT (Department Of Transportation) to obtain the permits to fly to the US and its territories.
Yes, Futura Airlines (the "Mother" company of Air Dominicana) has filed for chapter 11 in Europe. But Futura only holds 10% of the shares of the company financially speaking. Those shares are being bought by Air Europa now. Operationaly speaking, Futura's closure does not affect Air Dominicana Operations either. They WHERE giving operational support and flight planning to Air Dominicana, sure, but Air Dominicana has more than enough people to do the same thing. Futura's departure means SQUAT to Air Dominicana.
If anyone has more accurate information please feel free to share it.
