Hello Everyone

Hope all is well..i am trying to setup a special event shortly after xmas holiday's
and i have a narrow budget. I have met the love of my life after being dumped from a 24 year marriage. I lived in the carribean for 2 years and lived with my Dominican Girlfriend for 1 year..she is absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me.. i am only starting to realize that now that i am back in Canada. Anyway for now my sister is giving me her one of her old rings shhh! And i am just starting a job next week i am totally broke. But i want to spen two maybe three days close to Santo domingo or not in a nice hotel and propose. Then after the papers are done i want to go to the Canadian embassy and apply for her residency as well as her childs. I want to go on a honeymoon in Canada upon her and her daughter's arrival on the Via rail train from Toronto to Vancouver. But for now i need to make this happen sometime in January on a shoestring budget. So anyone that can give me an idea when the best time to book and where for nicest hotel for cheapest dollar. I know it's tough that time of year. Thanks everyone

but seriously....the events will not play out like you have scripted, that is for sure.

but you can manipulate the events that happen IN THE DR....

do a search of cheap hotels, i remember reading a thread about hotels in Santo Domingo that ran as low as $35 per night. i stayed at the Hodelpa near the end of the EL Conde, and it was nice hotel, but the rooms were about $50-$75 per night. It was a decent hotel...the lobby although small was very nice.

hopefully your fiance wont notice all the scratches on a gold ,used ,engagement ring

Check the airfare in advance. I think they go down the first week of January.

I have got flights several times from Western Canada for right after christmas for $100 + tax. They ususally go on sale 2 to 4 weeks pior to departure.

From your post, I'm assuming that your girlfriend and her child are still living in the DR. And that you plan on marrying her and bringing them to Canada.

Have you done any research on what it's going to take for your intended and her child to get their Canadian residency? I'm sure that it's not as quick a turnaround as you make it seem. If Canadian immigration is anything like here in the states, it could take quite a while.

On my first trip to the DR, about six years ago, I met a Canadian gentleman in the airport in Santo Domingo. He told me that he was visiting his dominican wife and that he'd been trying to bring her to Canada for the past TWO YEARS.

Now I know that you didn't ask for this advice. And I also know that situations and timelines may vary on an individual basis. But I think that you should do a little more research on your country's immigration policies before you plan the honeymoon.
