Default Airtravel rip-off

An article in Dominican Today was most illuminating:
"A Santo Domingo-Miami roundtrip fare for September 22 reserved July 2 cost in an airline US$363.46, US$198.00 of which is the basic cost, US$31.68 is Itbis, a US$20 tax is applied to the exit and US$113.72 are aeronautical fees."
52% they calculated. I don't suppose we can do anything about it or around it. We lost the original North American colonies because of " No taxation without representation", don't Dominican Politicians read history?
Granca.

Maybe I'm very slow witted but I just don't understand the comment from El Tigre. Maybe Land Cruisers are not cheap but that does not excuse rip off pricing on let us say a Daihatsu Terrios. My original question was did anybody have any ideas about what could be done to change or get round Dominican Government avarice or is it all to help their policies of nepotism?

Granca, you´re a little slow I have to admit. The Land Cruisers the big shots drive are paid for by the taxes, you get it?
See you have posted quite a few comments on this forum but you still don´t know what´s going on here do you?

Sadly I have to agree, a lot of the time I really don't know what's going on. There are so many contradictory aspects to life in the RD. I see and hear that one moment the government is taking all kinds of democratic actions and the next I read of yet more nepotism condoned or at least not stopped. If there is a thread clarifying these contradictions , please tell me.

I love DR, but it's one of these third world countries that have its hands in your pocket before you arrive to the country.
Then the hustle starts from the airport tourist card they make you purchase, rental car airport fees or expensive taxi rides, taxes on your hotel bill, taxes on your bill if you dine at good restaurants and everyone have their hands out for money.
The average person pays over $300.00 in taxes and fees just to vacation in DR.
I believe a large portion of tourist dollars pays for many projects in DR and the government will never reduce fees or taxes foreigners pay.
When travel restrictions are lifted against Cuba by the US Dominican Republic tourism will suffer.
