As of a few months ago it was still there with the "monkey man" still doing his tight-rope act.

Default Besy Food in Sosua

The best food in Sosua can be found at The New York Shark Bar on Sosua beach. The owner, Lou, has gone to great lengths to make sure all the food he has is top quality. The food includes imported U.S.D.A. beef hamburgers, imported hot dogs, Italian Saugage and Peppers, an excellent Cheese Steak that is so much better than a Philly cheese steak he had to call it a New York cheese steak and hand cut french fries made with Idaho Russet potatoes and cooked "coney island" style. There are also a set of appetizers that could pass for a meal. The atmosphere is great with rock-n-roll curtesy of Sirius satellite radio and most major sporting events on the TV. Combine all this with its location on beautiful Sosua beach and I think it is unrivalled in the Dominican Republic.

For awesome Dominican food in SD (Colonial Zone) Maison d' Bari - excellent food, incredible atmosphere, great staff and very reasonable prices...

For Spanish food in SD, a few blocks off the Malecon the best is Don Pepe .(as mentioned in a few other posts)- DEFINITELY try the cerviche, although they call it something else...and they have the fish and lobsters on display for you to choose.

In Sosua, on the beach... I believe the Adrian's on the beach referred to in previous posts is actually ANDRE's... they do have the best (and probably least expensive) whole fried fish on the beach, and a fairly extensive menu.

As for the Shark Bar...it's a great place, with a great location, nice staff and cool owner...but c'mon... it would hardly be in ANYONE's best restaurant list...to be fair, it's a beach bar with a BBQ grill, not a restaurant!

Best all-around restaurant in the DR for value, atmosphere, breakfast, food...and FREE high speed internet and wifi access is ROCKY'S in Sosua!!!

You can visit and enjoy the atmosphere of an over-priced restaurant without having to file a chapter 7 or 13. Just order something simple such as a ceasar salad and mineral water.
