You really do not know much about the Dominican Republic, do you???
1) Hospitals here do not have doctors trained in the USA.
2) Hospitals here are considered to be for the verypoor and the Haitians
3) The hospitals in the smaller towns are worse than the hospitals in the big cities.
4) No self-respecting Dominican would seek medical attention in a hospital.

You want to look for Clinicas (Clinics) which are private and may well have some US educated personnel on their staffs.

Let's see if some folks from La Vega will offer you some advice on clinics in that town.

In SD, The Cedimat is an excellent facility. Many doctors have studied abroad. The quality of care and service is "generally" quite good.

If you need an MRI, Sonagram, etc. other diagnostic test, their equipment is the best in the country.

If you require open heart surgery, well... to each his own.
There is no faciltiy outside of Santo Domingo where I would "elect" treatment. There are also many private practices that are highly reputable across various specialties such as Cardiology, Asthma and Allergy, Endocrinology, etc.

Cedimat and the Plaza de la Salud is one of Dr. Balaguer's prize projects that Leonel has followed up on. It is the crown jewel. However, take one step out of there andyou are in butcher stores...

And the OP was talking about La Vega!! Dr.Morillo King Hospital...go there for a heart transplant!!

And I will qualify that further: The two childrens's hospitals are pretty good and do better for the kids than the others do for adults.
The Maternity Hospital in Sto Dgo...incredible work under difficult circumstances. Dario Contreras is the trauma hospital of Santo Domingo, putting back together people from accidents and shootings and stabbings. They see it all. The Juan Bosch in La Vega gets few patients, it is in the middle of nowhere..

the Cabral y Baez in Santiago is the nation's largest and has a flock of good people, but they are not there full time...your best bet at many of these places is the enthusiasm of the medical students and interns and a few residents yet to be jaded by the system.

Just be sure to have good Medical Insurance and find a good clinic that accepts it!!

The best clinic in La Vega is La Concepcion which is around the corner (sidestreet) from the Tigermart on Avenida Pedro Rivera.

In any case, you would be best served by going to HOMS or Las Corominas in Santiago.
