Experience traveling to DR as a couple? Please read..

Hello,
I'm Dominican American. My boyfriend is a Dominican born citizen who's lived here in New York 25 years, but travels to the DR every x-mas. This is our first holiday together and he wants to take me to his town and introduce me to his family. I've never been to his part of the country. He is from the south (La Descubierta) and I am from Santiago. I've only been there a total of three times, but in my limited experience the people from Santiago are respectable and friendly I guess that's depending where you go... But I've never had any issues.Anyway.... as I've been commenting to people about our trip I'm getting allot of negative feedback about the women from this part of the country. They are very daring, money hungry and will throw themselves to men who come from abroad in hopes to land a ticket out.I've never been insecure about our relationship I'm attractive and very sure of myself, further more I trust him. My question is has anyone traveled to the DR as a couple and encountered uncomfortable situations with daring women who approach your partner in front of you? How did you handle it? Has anyone been to La descubierta? Are people exaggerating or do I have something to worry about? Please help!! I almost don't want go

D/Republic.....I know the feeling about DR.. It is a different part of the world because I believe it is one of the poorest. However,I may be wrong to have the feeling that everything is as bad as the reputation it had 25 years ago.. I am looking for the Manor Beach Resort and we will travel in Feb 09. I am checking of the air port to fly into and heading toward Puerto Plata area. Any comments would be welcomed.. tks
