Question Make a living from tourism ?

Hi All

Me and my wife considering living in DR .
One of our ideas is to buy a beachfront Villa and renting part of it for a families vacations .
I wonder if some of you do make a living that way .
is it possible ? , legal ?
What about tax, Does the government interfere ?

A bed and breakfast outfit could be a good business idea if you already have a scheme to find your guests. You could always go about it in an informal way, taking on paying guests now and then. The downside would be that you could not take credit cards unless you were legit business, but you could always explain that you are cash only. If the business works, you could always incorporate latter.

If you can market it, then you stand a chance, if you can't, you are wasting your time and money.

The only successful rentals I have seen in the DR are people that have made a serious effort ($$$) to market them, especially online. Once you have an established client/referral base, then you can slow down the marketing.

I would work on a 2-3 marketing plan with a heavy bias towards online marketing.
