Default Weight Loss Gym

HELLO ALL: i would like to know what are the requirements to open a weight loss health center and a gym in Santo Domingo and if this type of small business is profitable there. I know there is electrical power problems in Dominican Republic and if these types of businesses like health food store, weight loss medicines etc. are profitable among the upper-class in Santo Domingo.

Thanx

Default There will be a lot of competition!

We have "Gold's Gym","GNC",and lots of "imitators" here in Santo Domingo.Your initial investment would be large. You have to have a Generator for when there is no power.
What "Something Special" do you have to offer that a native Dominican does not already do??

Default But Body Shop is like 1000-pesos X month

I know that there is a lot of competition all over in all markets, in food, cars, gas, health but remember that we can also compete by price.

I would open a small gym for middle income families not for upper classes like body-shop and Golds gym which can charge u about 1000 x month. Those gyms are great but they can't compete by price.
I know i need to charge some amount of money which would let me cover electrical-power, local-fees, rent, etc. i would charge about 400-600 x month

Try to find a well-ventilated location where you do not need a/c. Your a/c bill, otherwise, may kill your business -- plus factor in fuel for your own generator.

I am back at Xmas and a buddy in Boca Chica without access to Sto Dgo. wants some protein powder and I said I'd get it next time in the capital since I am going there anyway. Where is GNC located?

I wouldn't say it can't work, but I would say it probably won't. If you are really interested, don't expect to make a lot of money at first. Just surviving would be wonderful until the economy turns for the better. AC costs could kill a gym. On the other hand, a gym without AC isn't too attractive here in Santo Domingo although it might have middle class appeal if the price was right. In essence, IMHO, you would have to create your own market.

There is probably more than one branch but the one I know is in Piantini - Plaza Andalucia on Lincoln esq Gustavo Mejia Ricart.

Exclamation For the Sosúa-Cabarete area:

we carry a fairly good line of GNC vitamins and other supplements such as Noni juice, ginseng, etc. If we don't have what you're looking for, just let us know and we will do our best to get it.
