Hotels field
To work at the hotels field in Punta Cana or Bavaro
you must speak spanish also, as more languages you speak
is better for you.
Hotel give 3 meals and room for you, its a little bit hard to work as assistant of manager you must show how good you are at and have good references about your skill management.
Melia Hotels I think they are hiring for a front desk dept or guest services.
One personal advice try to apply for Apple Vacation as Representative (not tranferist) apply from were you are.
(809)221-1290 Melia Hotels by the same line ask for Tour Desk extencion then ask for some Apple representative.
Good luck!

They pay more for typing in lower case letters
OK, not really buy stopp all CAPS typing please.
You are likely to make far far less than the equivalent rate in a US hotel, even if you are American. I would think expecting even $1000 US a month (e.g. 40,000 pesos) would be out of the question in a country where the minimum wage is US$100 (less really).
The idea to approach a US based vacation company like Apple Tours who have local representatives to act for them IN the resorts is a good one, although it would not surprise me if they used bilingual locals for that as well and pay them the local vs. expat rates.
Don't get your hopes up for like $50,000 US a year in the DR.

Thanx Rick; and ok ill stop the ALL CAPS.
I knew there was no way I could think that i would make as much as I make here in the US. I live in NY and if I were to move to Florida or another state in the US i wouldnt make what I make here let alone in DR. But you have to look at the fact that the cost of living is much lower as well.Im not saying its gonna be easy but its a challenge that im looking for.
thanx for the advice.

Unless you plan to live in a 10 by 10 foot non airconditioned shanty with no plumbing and cook rice and beans for yourself every day the cost of living for stuff you'd actually want is remarkably similar to the US and you won't make dick-all and you'll suffer with DR wages.
Question: (this of course has been asked of, oh, 1,000 dreamers thus far on this type of topic) have you ever BEEN to the DR? And looked at the type of accomodation etc., and the costs in the supermercado for your stuff?

To answer your question Rick I was born in DR and I own land there and I go every year ; and actually when i went in july of this year I did shopping in the supermarket so im aware of some prices for everyday goods. So its not like is something that i decided to do just yesterday or last week;ive been planning if for a while. However, im 26 years old and i do consider myself a dreamer but the difference between myself and other people is I actually work hard on accomplishing my dreams.
Now let me give you an example if havent ever lived in NY. Lets say you make $50,000 US dollars a year. Thats about 961.53 US dollars in one week.Now you need to pay taxes; you will be taking home about $800 US dollars a week. One would think you would want a nice place to live right?ok you will be paying a minimum in a decent neighborhood of $1100-$1500 a month for a one bedroom apartment. So lets say you find something nice for $1100:
(ALL ARE IN US DOLLARS A MONTH)
rent =$1100
internet=25
cable/satellite=65
telephone=50
cell phone=45
food=320
transportation to work=80
car insurance=250
gasoline for car=200
health insurance=100
going out 3 times a week and spending $50 each day=600
and the total cost per month=$2835 Your taking home $800 a week so in one month thats $3200.
3200- 2835=365. divide that by 4 weeks and you get $91.25 left in your pocket a week without saving anything or buying anything you would like. Now you might say well $91.25 is equivalent to around 3400RD and anyone over there would love to have that left in their pocket but thats when you realize your not in DR your in NY.
But remember i said lets say you make $50000 a year. The majority of people and Dominicans do not make that type of money.A good portion of them make minimum wage which is around $5.60 per hour; working 40 hours a week.Ill let you do the math on that and when you compare it, it will be just like making 3800RD a month.
What do you do Rick? if you dont mind me asking.

You will make more than that
Brother,
I had 5 year working in Punta Cana, Hotels I have being working at the frnto desk of Melia Hotel, I can grant you at any reception in Bavaro you will make at the least 10,000RD$ at all.
as representative most the travel agencies provide you a car, Gas, Hotel room and foods. so try to get in touch to apple vacation in NY or travel Impression not even that Sunquest, sunwing and Air-transat, I know there are a Local representative but there many foreign also working there.
So Apply, Brother you can have a good experience living and working there any way if you want to go to Puerto Rico there a Melia Paradisus there what is new ask to the main manager for Jose Ayala before all that email me.
I know you want to work in Bavaro, live in the dominican rep, its hard I know but try you dont have nothing to lose they provide you a training also apple vacation manage Sunscape Hotels in cabeza de Toro if you dont have chance to work as representative you have chance at the Hotels.
just talk to the big head at the Hotels
Manager of Public Relation
Manager of front desk or Room Division manager
Manager of Switchbording (phone operator)
A & B manager
I was dreaming about working in bavaro i did it and Im not regreat it because I did study for that it Hard at the begining but this is life. go ahead even for 3 month or six,
What they will requiered,
Resume
police record (dont take it untill they call you for the interview)
2 photos
ID number (passport or Cedula)
AIds test and they have some clinic to make it and the cost its around (250) pesos
Advice:
take with you at the least US150 Dollar to spend a week in a local
hotel in Bavaro (Cayacoa Hotel) or Cortecito Inn just in case they dont hire you same day and you have to expend a few days in Bavaro, I dont know so much about boca chica being Honest,
good luck. its good to work for 4 or 6 month down there if you like it you stay if not go back to NY.
good luck,
Homer simpson
its hard at the Begining when you dont know the area

Before anything Homer a million thanks about all the information you have given me. Like you said everything is hard at the beginning but its up to you to decide if you really want to succeed in whatever it is you want to do. If I stopped at everytime something got hard or someone told me that I could not do something I probably would not have accomplished anything with my life. Im not expecting it to be easy but I am expecting to work hard and succeed.
You said i would need a police record from here NY or DR?How would i get that? Lets say i begin as a representive or any other entry level position is it difficult to move up in position?
Where are you working now Homer?
thanx again

Hi
I'm agree with you,
This is how its work ?
most of the people start working at the from desk and then decide to move to Guest Services and from guest services to Tour Representative.
The problem is that, is very rarely that your boss raise a payment or move you up. People who are looking for better position they move them self to a different Hotels or Tour Company.
For example if you are working recepcionist in Paradisus Hotel and you got the info about there a new company, restaurant o
Hotel opening. there is when you get the info about payments a Comodidades (room)
I'm in Canada im studying here for a while.
When I go back to the Dominican if I need to work I will apply for
a tour operator representative or guest services at the hotel.
But, my idea is to start my own business in DR one day.
most of the employees are from, Romana, San Pedro, Boca Chica,
Santo Domigo and so much more farest places
