Default Best Finance Houses and other questions

Hello to all,

I am new to the forum, I hope all my questions are not an inconvenience and any help offered will be very much appreciated as I consider the possibility of relocation from the USA to the DR.

I am wondering which finance houses (or other sources) are the best to deal with for dollar investments in commercial paper in the DR with the idea of a relatively safe and sensible retirement income plan? Also, how much cash is really needed, in US Dollars, to entirely fund and investment plan to provide a comfortable, if quiet, life in the DR, home, car, household help, medical care, everything.

I am also wondering if any one has information about living in the cooler mountain climates rather than on the beach in the hotter areas where I am told English speaking is far rarer, as I only speak English, will I be helpless away from the beach and does anyone have any suggestions as to where in the high-country an American might be happiest and best served by location? How long is the travel time from the beach areas to the upland areas?

Any and all information, suggestions, contact information of any kind will be very helpful and appreciated.

Thank you all.

One of the best features of this site is the "Search" facility.

Please click on it with your key words: Safe+investment and see what comes up

Also look in the living section at the "Stickys" they are very educational.

Keep that up for a few minutes and I'll bet you have more info than you thought possible.

Also, most people would say that nobody in their right mind would invest one penny of US currency in the DR right now...just my 2¢

Default Perhaps

you should wait a few more weeks till after the election and then ask the investment questions again. To formally 'coin Hillbilly's phrase', nobody in their right mind would invest US $ in the DR right at the moment...

As far as living is concerned, we live on the first ridge away from the beach and it is only a 15 minute drive away from Sosua and 20 minutes from Cabarete. The mountains and the beaches are not far from one another - so, living on one, does not exclude the other. We live on the North Coast, which I've informally named the 'Gringo Coast'. We have a cool breeze 13 days out of 14 and have no airconditioning. A few fans and the ocean breeze provides cool "aire fresca" (fresh air).

the best finanial move in the DR now is....not to do it.
wait till after the elections, try to evaluate situation after the market will show some real stability tendency,
