I've seen other people with similar posts and I was wondering what the difference is between a Dominican hairstylist and non-dominican? Just curious.

The only difference is the technique and products.

Ok. Do you use special products imported from DR? When I was in DR I saw them using stuff imported from the US, but then again it wasn't an upscale salon.

Yes! most of the products are from the DR; my salon is a multi cultured. I am in need of a Dominican Stylist to fit in with the other nationalities.

Dominicans have many hair types. But for the most part females with curlier or coarse hair have a difficult time locating a hair salon that does not use much grease (as do African-American stylist) and/or can leave your hair looking "naturally" straight/relaxed without easily getting frizzed (as do stylist used to dealing with straight hair) at the wiff of rain, sweat, etc.

I always like to say Dominicans have perfected the skill of suppressing our blackness when it comes to hair care. LOL

One of the main reason why people seek dominican hair stylists is because dominican women are extremely concerned about the way their own hair look
and will always treat someone else's hair as they would treat their own, even if it means taking extra time with the client. Unlike so many other stylists that are more concern in seating you down and rushing you out fast so that they can jump on the next client and usually overbooking themselves for the sake of more $$$.

I always heard that Dominican hair stylists also have good hands for cutting hair.

I have a Dominican hair stylist here in Canada..even though I am not Dominican. I like her because she is very talented...and careful with all her clients. She always seems to "go the extra mile" to make clients happy.

Plus, it is always nice to talk to her about our Dominican experiences while she is doing my hair. All you women especially know how important it is to have a hair stylist who can converse properly with you!

Thumbs up Thanks for the info!

Great posts guys, you gave some good info. I guess also since dominicans have the entire spectrum of hair types, from straight and flat to coarse and curly, then a domincan hairstylist would probably have experience dealing with everything. I've personally also found that dominican barbers hook you up with the tightest fades.
