Bill G, send a PM to Chip, as he has a maestro that he can recommend. The guy that I've used in the past is great, but he's currently out of commission due to a bad auto accident.

I am all in favor of saving money. of course, but I am not an experienced builder, and I live in new York, and therefore will not be around to see the day to day goings on. Even if I was, I wouldn't have a clue anyway. I am willing to pay a little more with the expectation of getting top quality. - D

Hi,
I fd this interesting.
Chanel 37 on Sundays has a session on construction prices and cost of items for contruction.
As I recall -
Ground floor per Square meter was about 18,000 RDS and next floor was about 13,000 RDS per square meter.
This was as of 8th February . It is worth looking at to give you some yardstick to measure other costs by.
This was for basic block construction as I recall without finishes which can of course cost a great deal.
It was certainly informative.

It will probably vary a great deal for a variety of reasons. If you have an idea of something you need done, a friend can do an itemized estimate for a small fee.

It is good to stay current. Not looking for anything in particular just a general idea.

I think this is off the wall actually. You have to look at money like this: I have 5 projects (invesmtents, etc.) this year into which I could potentially sink 100,000.00 dollars. it's called "next best alternative" on day 1 of B-school.
That guy above (I think Rick) is a genius. He's livin' nice in a home that cost him 5K. Brilliant. Here's food for thought: if I took 100,000 and your guys quote per sq meter, how much would I have for my home power solution? If your power requirments entail only powering your TV, lightbulbs and PC, oh and maybe a good energy star fridge, than a decent sine wave inverter 3.6kw with 8x6V batteries and a charge controller MAY cost you at minimum 2500-3500 dollars. OK! But what about the AC? Solar/wind off-grid solutions for the average "American" home cost upwards of 20-30K.
Pardon the diversion...
ANYWAY, I don't know where you would locate your construction project, but in all my years in DR I just don't see the ROI. Only in the Capital, but it takes a "special" temperment to live there.
Is this a second home, vacation home, etc.? I can't help but to reflect back on Rick's 5k house. Ok, so maybe you need 2 more bedrooms. There is simply no need to sink 100,000+ dollars in a home here. The ROI simply will not be there (unless your'e next to a golf course, the Capital or other highly strategic location.
Bottom line: If I had 100K budget handed to me tomorrow, I would take 50K and build the house myself (a palace btw). The other 50 I would take my chances with my Etrade account. At MINIMUM, T-bills!
