Ricardo, trust me, I've done my homework on importing all sorts of vehicles, trucks, cars, classic cars and bikes, both for business and personal, in all sorts of permutations thereof. Your CBR is too "old" for the no-duty vehicle, and too "new" to qualify for a "classic". You'll pay duty, and of it's not in the aduanas book, you'll pay duty based on what the aduanas rep at the port ~says~ your vehicle is worth. If you want to appeal, you'll be paying a hefty daily storage fee.
And, just one rider-man's opinion, the CBR has just too much *awesomeness* for the DR. You know how the roads and traffic are. One unsuspecting pothole when you least expect it, and really bad things could happen.
If you want modern technology, ability to handle ALL the roads of the DR, low maintenance, will easily do 2-up without sweating, has waaay more power than makes DR sense, I'd recommend either the Suzuki V-Strom 650/1000, Kawasaki Versys, a Honda Transalp (like AMET has) or a BMW 1150GS. All those are the right tool for the job.
We chose the V-Strom 650. Great bike, great engine, great ergo's, great suspension, great handling, great price.
