It's virtually impossible to succeed, as you are competing with well established Dominican business men who have connections that permit them to import at a lesser price than you could.
Lots have tried, lots have died.

If you really want to make it into the used car market of the DR, then by all means be ready to lose big time once you find out that they can get theirs into the country at steep discounts than you'll ever get.

If you can support a cash losing biz for a year like that, then you'll get some ignorant foreigner of the used car bracket in the DR to sell your sweet deal of a biz to.

On the other hand, if you want to become a "pre-owned" car salesman in the DR with success; be ready to buy top luxury models at steep discounts in the auctions there and you'll have better luck in that niche of the bracket here...

Models like Enzo Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Land Rover, etc... Should give you an idea of the tag price and budget you'll need to operate.

Perhaps Porsches, Land Rovers...but Enzos...no way. That is not a car you buy in an auction and sell used. People wait years to be able to get their hands on one. Only 400 were ever produced.

That's exactly where you can buy those most of the time!
Private and semi-private auctions are the prime choice of owners to sell their cars at top dollar...

Maybe you were still thinking of the used car auctions all over the place???

Did you happen to know there are no less than 3 Enzos in the DR already???

Whether there are any in the DR is irrelevant. Whether it is the DR or the US, the same rules apply when it comes to buying something like an Enzo.

It's not a car that will ever get to a "pre-owned car lot". People will be willing to take it off your hands for more than you paid for it before it is even for sale.

I agreed with your previous post about the high-end market, but wouldn't want to exagerate the truth to the original poster.

thank you for all your responses..
based on your responses you seem to make it sound like a more difficult business than it really is,,
i have many connections and friends in the DR as well,, but just had this business thought as i was down on my most recent visit..
can anyone answer for me,,
what are the fees that would be associated with the importing of a vehicle?
the taxes?
taxes based on what?
yes, well connected businessmen in the DR get the vehicles through at discounted rates
but this merely cuts into the profit margin for each car sold.... yet even at marginally higher fees based on the profits available it appears that there is much money to be made especially based on the dirt cheap prices for cars here in the states.. versus what they can be sold for in the DR..
any other help would be much appreciated..
