The punk in the story is Hans Hurtell, the former ambassador who used his former status to worm his way into this deal.. I thought that there were laws that prohibited people in these important situations from taking such Insider positions....Gustavo Cisneros was there too, but he is a billionaire and should be there...

HB, really curious about conflict of interest or lobbyist laws --surely there is something on this...

The Punk is correct. There is a Munk and a Punk in Barrick. Punk is the director general.

We Googled the name and found Peter Munk but also a Peter Punk at http://members.aol.com/Ladonews/Lado3.htm

(Maybe that page was wrong!)

Default Peter Munk

I doubt very much that a Peter Punk exists in Barrick. The picture in the news papers clearly show Peter Munk talking to Leonel. The spelling mistake originates from the Listin Diario article on that topic. see http://www.barrick.com/Company/Management/default.aspx

The Central Bank posted this story and cited Hoy newspaper. I would guess that either both newspapers and the Banco Central made the same mistake (i.e Punk vs. Munk) or that this Punk fellow does exist.

Banco Central

Hoy Digital

Is it not obvious that Peter Punk does not exist?
