Accepting credit cards through web?

Has anyone had any experience with having an online store and accepting credit cards directly from the site?

We can use paypal to accept credit cards online, but I'm not sure if they offer this service with credit cards issued by banks from DR. Has anyone tried it out?

Are there any other services like that? Basically, we want to accept credit card transactions through the web (like most US retail websites)..
