Ours went out just before 10:00pm last night - we suspected it was a big one because both circuits went off (we live on the 'front line'). The blackout lasted for about two hours.

I look on the bright side - a break from the neighbours' loud aircon for a couple of hours is a rare treat.

The report says that the power outage included the entire South and North regions of the DR, and by midnight the CDEEE still had not determined the cause...

Mirado:

They'll probably find that a local military or police have stolen the transmission cables.
Lord knows, they need the money!!!

Texas Bill, you may not be too far off the mark. The CDEEE still has not given an official response on the cause of last night's general black out. There's talk of a "strange breakdown" on the line between Palamara and Hainamosa, that threw the entire country's interconnected energy system into disarray.

Wow, two whole hours of blackout, I hope everyone made it through the ordeal okay.

Most of the time we only get that amount of electric every 8-9 hours.

That's probably why we did not notice, everything was NORMAL here.
