ok ok...i give up!!! i am not a snob...i still wont go to TGIF when in the DR. Agreed...i am pretty much a toursit when I am there. I have grabbed a quick fast at Mc'd's or Burger King when i am there.

I can see the atraction...but i'd rather check out Oscar's thai or indian night.

and yes..i read the other posts....but i guess i am a foodie and like GOOD food rather than tacky american atmosphere.

you just don't give up. Its quite clear, you just don't get it. Its not your average american TGIF with american atmosphere. Is this too hard to understand? You see, you have to use a sledge hammer to break the dogmas these grigos bring with them to this country. In any case, I really don't think you would fit into these places with this mindset you have. You are better off in some bar in sosua or boca chica.Don't hurt yourself with understanding what we are trying to explain here. Just stay clear and come to oscar's place which is 100% like being in USA. Hahahaha

They almost should rename TGIF because its a different place in the DR compared to the US. The brand/positioning is totally different.

I'd much rather we got a high end steakhouse here though.. like smith and wollensky.. :-)

Maybe it is because Dominicans like to sort of feel like they are in the US and go to American places to get this feeling??? It is strange because most American people would not go to TGIF or any other place of this kind that often. And they would not tell their friends that they have been there, that is for sure.

About Gold's gym in Santiago - I have not noticed that many differences with the US. The main positive difference was that trainers, employees and just regular members were SO MUCH more polite and attentive in Santiago. Any time I used a machine in some sort of wrong way - someone would notice, come up to me, and correct my posture. Or, if I was lifting a heavy weight - someone would spot without me asking. It felt great to be protected this way. I even decided to pay more attention to the way I work with people at the gym, try to also make them feel that special. People in the US are way too busy and have too little time to care for others that much ....

You are so far off base, you just don't know it

Most of the Dominicans that go there couldn't careless about the US.
They have their cars, summer homes, US visas or passports etc etc.
In fact, many would boast about vacationing in Europe, long before admitting they went to the USA. This is not the Dominican York or the barrio chopo crowd.

How many times do we have to say it, this is the DR, not the USA.
Leave what you know at the airport, it doesn't apply here.

Have you even bothered to read the rest of the thread and what the people that actually live and work in the DR have been saying about TGIF?

I guess not... Sorry to break the bad news to you, but your looking pretty stupid right now.

AZB your right, sometimes ignorance knows no bounds!

I'm done.. next!
