Oh Tambo , let's not knickpick, hahaha.
I see where Don Jimenez is coming from. I am also upset and disappointed when the "Dom York" crowd invade my favorite dominican lounge or restaurant, because I know that when they start drinking, they'll start getting loud and roudy, wanting to fight.
ps. All dominicans from New York City are NOT "Dom Yorks" A "Dom York" is a negative connotation which infers about a less than desirable individual.

2 or 3 things....
During college my wife worked at a gas station in PA and every night she would have to take a reading of the gas tanks. She would have to put a special grease that would show how much water there was in the Premium and medium gas but not the regular... I know it don't mix, but I saw it with my own eyes.
Chopos come in all breeds, and found in the projects, barrios or suburbs. I lived in the projects and while poor I did not live the chopo lifestyle, but I sure did meet a lot of them!!!! And can you blame them, everybody has nice things and itys a lot easier to just put that hand out for someone to give you something than to work hard for it. Which is why people have no problem killing each other trying to get that political party into office since that's where the next hand out will come from.
I do not get offended by the phrase "blacks from the projects" what does offend me is the fact that those people (reaed chopos in the US and DR) do nothing to better themselves. Pick up a book and learn a trade, you can only find a juob being a janitor, the ndo it with pride, and save your money to help that poor limpiabotas get an education instead of another gold chain and a new pair of rebooks (you're 35 for crying out loud). These people are nothing but a drain on resources and should be treated as such.
Those that are offended by calling a spade a spade should get a clue. You are not helping these people, you are just enabling them to continue giving real Dominicans a bad name. STOP IT!!!!!

Your "general statements" are pretty offensive so it's a given that you'll "p!ss people off".
Getting back to my lovely hometown though, Santiago is and will always be more beautiful and liveable than La Capital, that's just a given. Nice pics, but no sight of El Monumento? =/

Speaking of El Monumento, it seems as the workers on the rehabilitation project never got paid.
And the renovations began crumbling as soon as Leonel left during the official inauguration.
Can anyone who has recently been to the Monument let us know if this is true?

Berzin.... if you are not up close ...everything looks fine...but get up close to the statues and you will see they are junk...most of the statues are from dominican heros and as such were military mostly. thus they have swords often....the swords are made of wood!!!. I bet some are already broken off....
I walked around the monument last week, I didnt notice stuff crumbling.
since they did the remodel job, they have added metal statues of bulls and chickens and such stuff...dont know what the theme is supposed to be,
the statues are made of pieces of various sections of sheet metal and welding to form the shape of the animal...with gaps here and there....they did a good job of getting the correct anotomy and proportions of each animal..
I think the artist left the welding slag in place for its effect.
they do not allow vehicle to drive up any more...thus the place isnt as popular as it once was...

Leonel is popular because he's a master wordsmith (if you've read Tolkien, think Sauron before he looked scary and was called "Master of Gifts", thus fooling everyone into accepting his rings) in his 1st as well as present terms, the "comesolos" been terrible at actually paying their public debts, syphoning money instead to cronies and propaganda/buy out funds.
I hated those statues by the way...made Monumento look cheesy.
